Suspicion (1-137)

Suspicion(1-137)

I lost the book I was reading before The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Sparks. Also, i didn't realize that the book had to be 200 pages long and that book didn't cut the requirements. So I started reading Suspicionby Kate Brian over the weekend. The book I started is from a series of books called Private and it is about this girl Reed. She goes on winter break to the Caribbean with her friend Noelle from school. While she is in the Caribbean, she goes on the boat with her friends and after getting in a little argument with her boyfriend she goes to get some privacy on the deck. While she is on the deck someone comes and pushes her off the boat, she is then stranded treading in the Sea for three and a half hours before someone comes and saves her.
The skirt of my dress wrapped around my right ankle and held fast, restricting my movement. Without a second thought I reached for the sipper at the side of the gown and, my cold fingers trembling and slipping, managed to yank it down. After a brief struggle I was free of the thing. It floated off on the waves like a lazy sapphire-blue cloud bobbing in the wind. Instantly, I felt twenty pounds lighter, and proud of myself for having made such a wise decision. I took a deep breath and realized that I was moving my arms much faster than I needed to, so I forced myself to slow down, Soon my heart rate calmed and my breathing stabilized. This was much better. I was strong. I was an athlete. I could tread water like this for hours.(page 3)
I chose this paragraph because it shows perseverance and determination. Reed stranded in the middle of the sea with no floatation device and far off the coast handles the situation pretty well. She remains pretty calm throughout the whole situation when the chances of her living through this is very slim. It shows being athletic pays off and she never gives up.

Go Ask Alice

I just started reading Go Ask Alice by anonymous. It's about this girl who just moves to a new school and she is trying to make friends. She makes a good friend named Beth but they have to part ways for summer. So she goes to visit her grandparents and meets up with some old friends. While she is at a party with them someone put LSD in her drink. The story is told in her daily diary entries.
"Wonderful news, Diary! We're moving, Daddy has been invited to become the Dean of Political Science. Isn't that exciting!" pg 3
Why is she so happy to move? Most people that age would hate to move from all their friends and their hometown. But i guess she gets a new start, if she had a bad reputation at her old school or something. A few years ago, I almost had to move to China for my dad's job. Thankfully it didn't go through but i was definitely not excited to leave everyone behind.

The Truth about Forever(13-33)

Recently I started The truth about forever by Sarah Dessen, so far it is during the summer and her boyfriend just left for camp. As she finished saying goodbye to her boyfriend in the airport in reminds her of how she never got to say goodbye to her father. She has a flashback on when her father died, it was a cold morning and he woke her up early to go running, while he was waiting outside for her he had a heart attack.
"So each time my mother tossed the boxes, I'd fish them out and bring them upstairs to add to my collection. I never used any of the products, choosing instead to just believe the breathless claims on the boxes. there were a lot of ways to remember my dad. But i thought he would have especially liked that."(pg 16)

Macy's dad was obsessed with collecting products of the informercials that you see on t.v. he would constantly be purchasing them because he believed they made life easier. When he died, they kept coming in every month, so Macy would keep them as a reminder of her father and how happy the items made him. In a way I can relate to Macy, my mum's best friend died of cancer and the christmas before she died she gave me a doll. It is still in my room today and whenever I see it, it reminds me of her and all the good memories our families had together.

"The truth about forever" [1-13]

I just started the book The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen. So far it is about this teenager, Macy who is going out with this really smart guy Jason. He is getting ready to head off to "brain camp" so she is helping him get sorted and saying good bye to him for the summer.
By the time we'd covered that, then finished the main list- stopping to cover two other sub- headings, toiletries and miscellaneous- Jason seemed pretty much convinced he had everything. Which did not, however, stop him from continuing to circle the room, mumbling to himself. It took a lot of work to be perfect. If you didn't want to break a sweat, there was no point in even bothering.

This paragraph tells us a lot about Macy's boyfriend, Jason. You can tell from this passage that he is very organized and wants to make sure he leaves nothing behind. I can relate to him because whenever I go somewhere I do the same. I make a list of everything I need to bring with me and go through the list crossing stuff off as I pack it. After I have done that I go around my room one last time just to make sure I'm not missing anything.

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie: (1-23)

I just started reading The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark. So far this book has really caught my attention, it’s about these girls that are each unique in their own way. They follow Miss Brodie who teaches them the ways of women.

The six girls that follow Miss Brodie are each different. Some of them include: Jenny for beauty and Sandy for her eyes. Each girl also wears there hat a different way symbolizing different things.

But now, the boys with their bicycles were cheerfully insulting Jenny Gray about her way of speech which she had got from her elocution classes. She was going to be an actress. She was Sandy’s best friend. She wore her hat with the front brim bent sharply downward; she was the prettiest and most graceful girl of the set, and this was her fame. “Don’t be a l out, Andrew,” she said with her uppish tone. There were three Andrews among the five boys, and these three Andrews now started mimicking Jenny: “Don’t be a lout, Andrew,” while the girls laughed beneath their bobbing panamas. (page 13)

I liked this block quote a lot, it talks in detail about Jenny Gray in a way that we can imagine her very easily. It describes in death about the position of her hat and not one of the girls where their hat the same way. It also talks about boys being boys. Which is mimicking girls on what they say and making fun of them.
